What is Homeostasis?

Homeostasis refers to the maintenance of a stable internal environment within the human body. It involves various negative feedback mechanisms that detect changes and initiate responses to keep conditions within an optimal range.

Thermoregulation

One key aspect of homeostasis is thermoregulation, which controls body temperature. When the body gets too hot, mechanisms like sweating and vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) help cool it down. Conversely, shivering and vasoconstriction (narrowing of vessels) help conserve heat when it's too cold.

Osmoregulation and the Kidneys

Osmoregulation maintains the right balance of water, ions, and other dissolved substances. The kidneys play a vital role by filtering blood and regulating the concentration of urine output to control fluid levels and composition.

Blood Glucose Regulation
